Boys Cross Country: Day 1 of Regionals Completed (2025)

AURORA - The first day of the boys cross country regional championships is in the books with 16 of the 20 regionals being completed. The remaining four regionals will be competed tomorrow with the state qualifiers being announced on Monday.

The Cross Country State Championships will take place at Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Class 5A

Region 1

CENTENNIAL – It was a battle to the finish line at deKoevend Park for the 5A Region 1 Championship, and it was Northfield’s Ayuub Hassan that edged Regis Jesuit’s Braeden Focht by one-tenth of a second for the regional championship.

Hassan clocked a winning time of 15:58.6, while Focht finished with a time of 15:58.7.

Grandview’s Colton White was the third runner to finish, completing the course in 16:09.6, while Cherokee Trail’s Dylan Smith (16:15.8) and Northfield’s Jack Sheehan (16:21.0) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sixth and seventh place went to Cherry Creek, as Isaac Scott took sixth in 16:22.2 and Landry was seventh in 16:25.9. Cherokee Trail’s Josh Chadeayne was the next runner to finish, taking eighth with a time of 16:27.1, while Rangeview’s Kimi Bulto was ninth (16:32.4) and Chaparral’s Tomm Gamlin was 10thin 16:45.0.

Region 2

CENTENNIAL – Mountain Vista’s Benjamin Anderson won the 5A Region 2 Championships, while teammate Benjamin Adams took second at deKoevend Park on Thursday. Anderson clocked a time of 15:21.4, while Adams crossed in 15:40.0.

Third place went to Ben Lee, of ThunderRidge, while Arapahoe’s Maddox Mangers finished fourth (15:49.8), Heritage’s Benjamin Wolff took fifth (16:05.2) and Arapahoe’s Kyle Kato was sixth (16:17.3).

Mountain Vista’s third finisher – William Wachter – crossed in seventh with a time of 16:17.3, while Arapahoe’s third finisher – Jackson Turner – crossed in eighth with a time of 16:18.8. Ninth place went to Lakewood’s Kaden Hamilton (16:27.4), while Golden’s Jackson Ferguson rounded out the top-10 with a time of 16:30.1.

Region 3

BROOMFIELD - Niwot swept the 5A Region 3 team championship by claiming the top eight spots in the race. Rocco Culpepper (15:50.40) beat Ryder Keeton (15:51.03) to the line to win the regional championship, while Quinn Sullivan took third (15:56.16), Hunter Robbie fourth (15:56.49) and Gabriel Marshall fifth (16:00.82).

Keegan Geldean (16:02.28) finished sixth and was followed by Evan Kear (16:04.67) and Cole Mazurana (16:11.61).

Boulder claimed the next three finishers, as Cooper Draves (16:12.92), Toby Wong (16:18.56) and Lucas Wik (16:18.65) finished 9-10-11.

Niwot posted a perfect score of 15 points, while Boulder took second at 56 points and Fairview finished third at 111 points.

Region 5

COLORADO SPRINGS - Castle View’s Evan Dann captured the 5A Region 5 individual championship, finishing the Monument Valley Park Cross Country Course in a time of 15:36.14.

Rock Canyon’s Jack D’Souza was right behind, crossing in 15:37.39, and close behind that was Valor Christian’s Griffin Mazeski (15:39.53).

Fourth place went to Doherty’s Quinton Rodriguez (15:45.45) and fifth went to Douglas County’s Tanner Smith (15:49.56). Valor Christian’s Judah Crooks finished sixth in 15:51.23 and Castle View’s Wyatt Dann took seventh with a time of 15:55.08.

Rock Canyon’s Alex Koeneker crossed eighth with a time of 15:56.03, while Air Academy’s Aidan Teran was ninth in 15:58.20 and Valor Christian’s Porter Warren was 10th in 16:00.89.

Valor Christian claimed the team title with 49 points, while Castle View finished with 58 points, edging Rock Canyon (59 points) out of second by one point.

Class 4A

Region 1

Region 2

COLORADO SPRINGS - Noah Thompson led Lewis-Palmer to the 4A Region 2 team title by capturing the individual championship in a time of 15:58.83. Ponderosa’s Rylan Preble finished second with a time of 16:23.06, while Lewis-Palmer’s Jake Morrison took third in 16:33.22

Fourth place went to Wheat Ridge’s Adam Muller (16:37.33), while Green Mountain’s Bryce Weeks (16:41.41) edged Palmer Ridge’s Benjamin Olds (16:41.96) out of fifth and Lewis-Palmer’s Elijah Martinez took seventh with a time of 16:46.76.

Palmer Ridge’s Andrew Gross was close behind, finishing eighth in 16:48.45, while Littleton’s Henrik Chojnacki (16:51.41) and Mullen’s Caden Garrison (16:58.01) rounded out the top 10, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.

Region 3

BROOMFIELD - Longmont's Miles Miller led the Trojans to the 4A Region 3 team championship by winning the individual title at Broomfield County Commons on Thursday. Miller clocked a winning time of 16:30.39.

Holy Family's Parker Nelson came in second with a time of 16:49.64 and Lutheran's Camden Johnson clocked in at 16:52.92, edgingMead's Josh Knight (16:53.45) out of third place.

Fifth place went to Holy Family's Garrett Smith, who finished with a time of 17:01.25, less than one-tenth of a second faster than Longmonth's Julien Frazier, who finished sixth with a time of 17:01.72. Two second back from that was Mead's Asher Parsons with a time of 17:03.78.

Lutheran picked up eighth and ninth place with Jackson Krieger and Logan Nelson finishing in 17:14.43 and 17:20.99, respectively, and Longmont's Christian Price finished 10th at 17:25.86.

Longmont captured the team title wtih 45 points, narrowly escaping Lutheran, which collected 48 points. Holy Family finished third with 60 points.

Region 4

JOHNSTOWN – Thompson Valley had a near perfect meet Thursday at Johnstown Reservoir, claiming the top three finishers and placing all five scoring runners in the top eight to win the 4A Region 4 title with 19 points.

Curtis Smela clocked the fastest time through the course at 16:06.77, while Guthrie Manzella (16:21.19) and Trent Gabrielson (16:21.61) battled to the finish line.

Berthoud inserted itself within the Thompson Valley runners, as Scott Clark took fourth in 16:31.78, but the Golden Eagles placed a fourth runner in the top five as Levi Smela crossed in 16:40.37.

Sixth place went to Roosevelt’s David Roberts, who finished in 16:44.53, while Severance’s Jacob Brown crossed in seventh with a time of 16:49.97. Thompson Valley then rounded out the top 10 with Jacob Crisman (16:50.03), Isaac Vasquez (17:04.81) and Ty Bakker (17:06.61) crossing in that order.

Berthoud finished second to Thompson Valley in the team race with 74 points, while Severance finished third at 133 points.

Region 5

PUEBLO - The 4A Region 5 Championship featured a battle between Cheyenne Mountain and Coronado as the two schools combined to claim all of the top-nine finishers and both teams ultimately finished tied for first with a team score of 29 points.

Cheyenne Mountain’s Aiden Le Roux turned in the fastest time, winning the individual title with a time of 15:28.28, while teammate Brogan Collins was second at 15:46.13. Coronado claimed third with Oliver Horton crossing in 15:55.96.

Cheyenne Mountain’s third runner – Aiden Ogg – finished fourth in 15:59.71 before Coronado put four-straight runners across the line with Boston Potts finishing fifth (16:09.03), Braxton Oliver finishing sixth (16:34.63), Parker Davidson finishing seventh (16:57.14) and Ryan Slater finishing eighth (17:12.23). Cheyenne Mountain’s Jack Krasovec was the fourth Cheyenne Mountain runner across the line, finishing ninth in 17:22.59.

Palmer’s Owen Church finished 10thin 17:26.76.

With Coronado and Cheyenne Mountain tying for first with 29 points apiece, Mesa Ridge took third with 93 points.

Class 3A

Region 1

Region 2

COLORADO SPRINGS - Ezekiel Wilcox completed the course at North Monument Valley Park with a winning time of 16:21.95 to lead Salida High School to the 3A Region 2 team title.

Lamar’s Joel Davis finished second with a time of 16:29.40, while Alamosa sandwiched runners around Gunnison’s Jackson Dalleck, with Ethan Merrick taking third (16:39.64) and Jeremiah DeLaCerda finishing (16:41.89). Dalleck finished fourth with a time of 16:41.59.

Salida claimed four of the next five spots to round out the top 10, as Joaquin Wilcox finished sixth in 16:45.22, Jackson Shomion was seventh in 16:45.85, Ran Osness was eighth in 17:00.70 and Orion Baxter was 10th in 17:08.01. Centauri’s Carson Bagwell took ninth with a time of 17:05.45.

Salida won with 32 points, while Alamosa was second at 53 points and Manitou Springs was third with 88 points.

Region 3

BROOMFIELD - Peak to Peak’s Jack Cerullo won the 3A Region 3 Championship at Broomfield County Commons Park, but Jefferson Academy claimed the next three finishers to place three in the top four and win the team title with 26 points.

Rylan Mills took second in 17:17.61, Judah Wilson was third in 17:28.73 and Aden Garza was fourth in 17:38.04.

Fifth place went to Peak to Peak Charter School’s Bennett Ross (17:53.08), while Prospect Ridge’s Brody Bender (17:55.99) and Nicholas Shoemaker (17:58.74) were sixth and seventh, respectively.

Jefferson Academy’s Chase Wittman (18:04.96) and Carter Nickels (18:14.34) crossed in eighth and ninth, respectively, while Prospect Ridge Academy’s Nigel Thomas rounded out the top 10 with a time of 18:16.66.

Peak to Peak finished second in the team race with 50 points while Prospect Ridge was third at 60 points.

Region 4

JOHNSTOWN – Jackson Fagerlin of Resurrection Christian won the 3A Region 4 individual title at Johnston Reservoir Thursday. He finished the course in 17:10.17.

Frontier Academy’s Matthew Hayden (17:14.20) and Kalid Fanning (17:27.06) were the next two finishers, while Liberty Common’s Pierce Richardson took fourth in 17:46.16. One second back of that was Resurrection Christian’s Jonah Morris, who finished fifth in 17:47.16.

Sixth place went to Fort Lupton’s Jonathan Trejo, who clocked a time of 17:53.22, while Liberty Common’s Cooper Barr took seventh in 18:02.37 and Resurrection Christian’s Trevor Lim finished eighth in 18:06.38.

Liberty Common’s Ethan Yu and Jack Friesen rounded out the top-10 with times of 18:14.28 and 18:21.12, respectively.

Frontier Academy claimed the team title with 47 points, narrowly edging Liberty Common out of first (51 points). Resurrection Christian took third with 81 points.

Region 5

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE - The Classical Academy's Noah Askew won the 3A Region 5 individual title, but Banning Lewis placed four runnners inside the top 10 to claim the team title at the Kent Denver School's cross country course.

Askew finished with a time of 16:53.49 and was followed by Strasburg's Dawit James, who clocked in at 17:00.92. Banning Lewis' Jaxon Taylor claimed third place with a time of 17:02.67 and The Vanguard School saw Max Miller take fourth with a time of 17:03.52.

DSST Cedar's Emmanuel Dean crossed fifth, in 17:05.34, before Banning Lewis sent two across the line in Donavyn Williams (17:13.15, 6th) and Brennan Ryland (17:14.24, 7th). Eighth place went to The Classical Academy's Ryan Whitcomb (17:27.63), while ninth went to Strasburg's Israel James (17:33.29). Banning Lewis' Asher Taylor rounded out the top-10 with a time of 17:36.61.

Banning Lewis' score of 39 topped the leaderboard, while The Classical Academy was second with 50 points and Strasburg was third at 82 points.

Class 2A

Region 1

LYONS - Loveland Classical's Antheney Herre turned in the best time for the 2A Region 1 championship at Lyons High School Thursday, finishing the course in a time of 16:55.47.

Forge Christian's Titus Kammerlohr finished second with a time of 17:37.48 and was followed by Loveland Classical's Samuel Lee, who clocked in at 17:41.83. Lyons' James Newell claimed fourth place in 17:57.43, Heritage Christian's Ian Molgaard took fifth in 18:09.54 and Wiggins' Mason Forsha was sixth in 18:22.31.

Seventh place went to Nederland's Benjamin Weber (18:29.44), while Loveland Classical's Silas Haywood claimed eighth (18:33.73), Lyons' Noah Shelton ninth (18:34.53) and Fleming's Teagan Martin rounded out the top 10 with a time of 18:38.17.

In a race combined with 2A Region 2, Forge Christian recorded the best team score of 134, while Loveland Classical took second at 160 and Lyons third at 170.

Region 2

LYONS - Lotus School for Excellence's Biruk Begashaw won the 2A Region 2 title, completing the Lyons High School Cross Country course in a time of 16:41.62.

Denver Christian's Ian Reynolds took second with a time of 16:53.26, while Peyton's Gabe Gatti was third (17:26.68), SkyView's Rylan Griffith was fourth (17:33.54) and Clear Creek's Ocean Caplan-Holdgrafer was fifth (17:36.22).

In sixth place was SkyView's Mitchell Hixon (17:43.60). Golden View Classical Academy's Huckleberry Hale took seventh wtih a time of 17:50.20 and teammates Luke Wahl (17:58.15) and Pieter Langedyk (18:00.11) took eighth and ninth, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 was Burlington's Triston Esquivel in 18:05.23.

In a race combined with 2A Region 1, Golden View Classical Academy took first with 71 points, while Clear Creek was second at 164 points and Peyton third at 183 points.
